Staff and FacultyHelp!Mailing ListsClick here for help with Mailing List Commands Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat Is a List Serve? A List Serve is basically a mailing list that gives members the ability to send a single email message to all members of a specific list. There can be literally thousands of members to a mailing list. How does it work? By sending an email message addressed to the list, the server will automatically re-distribute the message to all members of that list, including yourself. What lists are available on the APU mailing list server? To get a listing of all available lists on the APU mailing list server, go to: How Do I Join a Mailing List? Follow the link on the Mailman Lists page to the list you wish to join. You will be presented with a subscription form which you can fill out right there on the page. That's it! You will receive an email asking you to confirm your subscription. By simply replying you will receive confirmation that you have been added and your list password. Note, you must be using your own email program, properly configured with your return address, for this to work. How do I reply? To respond to a message sent through the List Server, just choose the "Reply" button on your email program. Does my reply go to all members of the list? No. Most of the List Servers at APU are set up to send your reply only to the "author" of the message to which you are replying; NOT to the entire list. This feature is up to the list administrator, however, so, if you are not sure, ask the administrator, or click reply and then look at the address of the email, before you send it. How do I send a message to other Lists? To send a message, you can email your message directly by addressing it to the list, e.g. lit209@lists.alaskapacific.edu You first must be a member of the mailing list. [ More Help ]
